Concert Webcast: Tune-Yards Performs On The BlueCross BlueShield Performance Stage WATCH LIVE

Wow – on October 7th when the playoffs started, we all imagined the Cubs rolling through the first two rounds and making it to the dance, but it still feels extremely surreal that it actually happened. Being in the bleachers for that game was an experience I’ll never forget and it’s hard to put into words how exciting it was from start to finish. The job isn’t finished however, the Cubs need to wrap this journey up with a championship. As Scottie Pippen once put it, “Don’t mean a thing, without the ring.”

Let’s break down the final series mixed with some tunes and hopefully next week we can all go out and buy our Cubs championship gear.

There Will Be a Kyle Schwarber Kirk Gibson Moment
Beastie Boys – Sure Shot

The most shocking moment of the World Series has happened before a pitch has been thrown. Kyle Schwarber, who is the all time Cubs home run leader in the post-season, is starting tonight in Cleveland.

Joe Maddon confirmed on The Score this afternoon that Kyle Schwarber is in fact DH’ing tonight and tomorrow. If you’re in the camp that he shouldn’t be playing, I rebuttal by saying Theo & co. know better than all of us combined and he’s playing because he’ll make a significant contribution as a DH. My prediction besides the Cubs winning this series is that Kyle has two or more homers, one as a pinch hitter at Wrigley. “I don’t believe what I just saw” circa 1988 will be re-imagined in this series.

Joe vs. Tito
The Rolling Stones – Wild Horses

You can make an argument that these are the top two best managers in the game going up against each other. Add in a few chippy moments while managing against each other in the AL East and this should be one fiery chess match to watch. Terry Francona was the manager of the Red Sox when Theo Epstein was the GM, and I’m sure he will have extra motivation to unleash his amazing baseball mind against the Cubs. I’m sure one thing they can agree on is The ‘Stones.

Don’t Underestimate The Tribe
The Troggs – Wild Thing

Everyone and their mothers had the Tribe losing to the Red Sox in the first round of the playoffs. Cleveland went on to steam roll Boston and also destroyed the heavily favored Blue Jays in the ALCS. They have a better bullpen then us and love to get on base more than Charlie Sheen. Speaking of him, he put out the amazing idea that he’d throw out the first pitch of the WS as Ricky Vaughn from Major League and the Indians turned him down. Cue the music!

Cubs Starters vs. Cleveland Bullpen
Steve Miller Band – Fly Like an Eagle

I know it’s a cliche, especially in the playoffs, but this series will come down to pitching. For the Cubs, they need their starting pitching to continue to go deep into ball games and pitch well. The Indians feature the best bullpen in baseball and will be hoping their starters(outside ace Corey Kluber) will be able to make it to the 5th inning. Then, Terry Francona has been unleashing the ALCS MVP, Andrew Miller, to wreck havoc on everyone he faces. The key will be getting to the Cleveland starters early, outside of Kluber going tonight, none are spectacular. The biggest thing we need to avoid in this series is seeing Miller coming in with the lead.

Series Prediction
Eddie Vedder – All The Way

Obviously with the pennant, all of your past doubt as a Cubs fan should be erased. This is a different team then teams of ’69,’84,’89,’98,’03,’07, and ’08. They hold an advantage pretty much in every category and will bring the World Series trophy home to Chicago.Cubs in 6, I think someday is now.
