By Richard Milne

The first 7″ on HoZac was issued in November of 2006. Elementary math would indicate we are just days shy of the 10th anniversary of that occurrence. The fellas of HoZac, Todd Novak and Brett Cross, are well aware of it, too, and have scheduled a blowout called “Ten Years of Sick Sounds” to celebrate at the Double Door next Saturday night. Acts include The Gories, Heavy Times (whose “Black Sunglasses” still reigns as the year’s best 7″. See video below), Mike Rep, Jeanies, Sueves (also new video below. Album due soon on HoZac) and more on two stages. HoZac has long been one of my favorite “boutique” labels in Chicago. With over 200 releases in their catalog, quite frankly, I’m surprised (but delighted) they’ve managed to put out the quality they have for as long as they have. Plus, they’ve got an archival imprint and have branched out to book publication, too. Obviously, Todd and Brett aren’t your average schlub record impresarios. Or, maybe they are. Find out when they join me for a lot of tunes and talk about all things HoZac on Local Anesthetic, this Sunday night at 7:30 on XRT.
