It was a pleasure to speak with Maxel Toft about his President Series which he began back in 1999 with 42 (Bill Clinton) and is now on to 30 (Calvin Coolidge), the challenges of creating art, specifically creating art with a continuous fresh approach, the religious imagery found scattered throughout his lyrics, lyrics in general (I especially like his “Love is there beneath the frost line, love is there above the tree line” from his song “Giving and Receiving”), and his impetus for creating a moniker like “Maxel Toft”.
