It was an action-packed year: the Exxon Valdez nightmare, protest and tragedy in Tiananmen Square, and the destruction of the Berlin Wall. The Reagan era came to a close when George H. W. Bush moved into the Oval Office in January.

“Simpsons Roasting on an Open Fire”, the first episode of the iconic show, aired in December. Michael Keaton starred in Tim Burton’s version of Batman and Nintendo introduced the Gameboy. Album highlights included Don’t Tell a Soul from the Replacements, Bob Mould’s Workbook, Tom Petty’s Full Moon Fever, the Stone Roses’ debut, The Pixies’ Doolittle, Disintegration by the Cure, and the Neville Brothers’ Yellow Moon.
