By Richard Milne

As the year winds down and the Holidays wind up, Local Anesthetic is in to the last two shows of new and new-ish Chicago music for 2016. My colleague Emma Mac laid a copy of Post Animals Perform the Most Curious Water Activities on me and, while it’s a year old, it’s something you should hear. Also, I’m finally getting around to my man Jason Narduccy’s newest side from Split Single. The Fat Babies play trad jazz as only a bunch of really talented young devotees can; with high spirit and spunk. I’ve played Sunjacket off a couple of demos the last few years but their new long player, Mantra, is just out. I’ll spin Whitney again just because the title track to Light Upon the Lake will take the edge off your Sunday night. You’ll want to stick around for this new gospel release, Lift Me Up, on Chicago’s Siren Records. And, I miss the very underappreciated Souljunky but glad to see John Mott is recording again. Hear a tune you won’t hear anywhere else along with all of the above on tomorrow night’s Local Anesthetic at 7:30pm here on XRT.
