The calendar flipped to December and the season changed quickly to winter as a record-breaking first snowfall of 6 inches fell upon Soldier Field and the Bears upended the San Francisco 49ers 26-6. Jordan Howard had a career day with 117 yards and 3 touchdowns on 32 carries as the Bears moved away from the forward pass in favor of the running game in the elements without Jay Cutler under center. It was quarterback Matt Barkley’s first career win as a starter.

The Bear defense stepped up to the challenge of containing San Francisco quarterback Colin Kaepernick by limiting him to 20 yards rushing at a whopping 4 yards through the air. When Kaepernick was relieved of his duties in the fourth quarter, Blaine Gabbert fared no better with 35 yards passing. He was thrown down for a safety by 1st round draft choice Leonard Floyd who thankfully avoided serious injury after a scary looking neck injury last week.

The Bears won’t have to face the elements next week as they travel to Detroit to face the division-leading Lions.

Chicago Bears defensive lineman / fullback Mitch Unrein joins the XRT Morning Show the morning after every Bears game at 9:15am for the Two Minute Drill.
