Marcus Mumford has certainly taken heat for the Mumford & Sons moniker over the years. In a recent interview, even he admitted his band’s name is a little bit corny.

Speaking to UK radio station Radio X, Mumford said, “I regret our band name. Its rubbish. It’s a rubbish name.”

He added, “You never really think about it when you’re in the pub, you’ve done your first rehearsal, you’ve written your first song and someone’s like: ‘you need a band name now'”

Mumford never expected his band to get as big as they are now, which is why he’s a little embarrassed by the name. He said,

“We’re all young guns and didn’t really think about it very much… And then of course your band name precedes you and you’re sat in a room answering questions like this.”
