Even though the outside temperature makes it feel more like the First Day of Summer, early today we celebrated the Vernal Equinox (exact time was 12:14am CDT). Hopefully like me you’re a big fan of XRT’s The Big Beat hosted by Marty Lennartz. A month and half ago he was playing a song that had me rushing into the studio asking what he just played. It ended up being the advance cd of a group out of Minneapolis called Poliça (pronounced Po-Lisa). He lent me the album and it has been on constant play at home, on my player and in my car ever since. I’ve always been a sucker for atmospheric music and every track from Poliça’s debut shows so much hope and promise in this relatively new group’s career.

They’ll be performing this Wednesday Night at Lincoln Hall and I suggest you catch them now or you might be clamoring with throngs of people during one of the many music festivals this summer.Listen & Download

You might have heard all the news stories these past 2 days of The Lollapalooza Gatecrashers. Back where the 93XRT Lollapalooza Backstage Bungalow is situated, we’ve had a bit of a first hand account all weekend long. The bungalow is situated on another side of a fence that secures the Artist Backstage area, so we were taken by surprise early Friday afternoon as  a swarm of people began plopping over our fence as security frantically raced to the scene.  All day Saturday, security would pass by our bungalow and give us periodic Gate Crasher Warnings, yep just like Thunderstorm Warnings and Watches. We never knew what to expect and I’m sure those warnings and watches will be issued again this afternoon as the fest gears up for it’s final day.
