Balbo was named for an Italian pilot who made the first transatlantic flight from Rome to Chicago; Italo Balbo was also a member of Italy's Fascist party who supported Benito Mussolii. Ida B. Wells was a Chicago journalist, suffragist and civil rights leader. Italian American leaders in Chicago defend Balbo's legacy and say another, more major road should honor Wells.
